Jacques BUSSE

1922-2004

Jacques Busse studied from 1942 at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere, Paris under Othon Friesz. In 1945 he took part in the first Salon de Mai and Busse had his first solo exhibition at Michel Blin in 1947. After a period of figurative work he began to work in a progressive post-Cubist manner with a formal, hard and angular style. He continued to exhibit, notably at Galerie Jacques Massol (from 1956-1981) and in 1977 at the Pompidou Centre but also taught and oversaw the writing of the Benezit reference dictionary. From 1981-1991 he was president of the Salon des Realities Nouvelles.
