Red Raven Arts is an internet gallery that specialises in modernist, expressionist and abstract paintings by quality artists from the period 1955-to the present.
We have major holdings of works by John Christoforou, Ithell Colquhoun, Arnold Daghani, Nguyen Ducmanh, Bernard Farmer, John Melville and Ulrico 'Montefiore' Schettini. In addition we stock paintings by British and international artists including Rita Alima, Denis Bowen, John Christoforou, Lincoln Seligman, Humphrey Spender, Fred Uhlman, Leon Zack and some 60 other artists.
NEWS Latest Update : 18 November 2008 NOVEMBER FOCUS: EXPRESSIONISTIC REALISTS
We are highlighting this month the work of a number of painters often considered as realists. However, all have a hint of the magical about them and some of their paintings, such as those shown by Spender and Hopkinson, have a dark expressionist feel. Robert Carroll is a particular favourite of ours in this field. The Brian Horton, in contrast, invokes a much lighter mood in which he expresses his deam-like homage to earlier English landscape painters.
Latest additions & news:
In October we added Ithell Colquhoun's 'Waves', a 1963 abstract oil by Bryan Organ, some hard-edged 1960s abstract works by Bernard Farmer and a fine Roberto Caracciolo sketch from the late 1980s. This month we have uploaded a small oil by Arie Smit, an Indonesian artist, a large 1965 work by Nigerian modernist Uche Okeke, a Frank Avray Wilson abstract and "Labyrinth", a large John Melville work from the late 1950s. Plus an austere early 1970s oil by Pierre Jacquemon and two oustanding early 1960s John Christoforou oils.
We are in the process of setting up a second site at www.2021modernart.com to display works falling outside the core Red Raven remit. Please have a look from late-November.
We are always interested in purchasing quality paintings from 1950s-1970s, whether from UK, Europe, Africa, Asia or the Americas.
