NEWS Latest Update : 30 April 2012 MAY FOCUS: EASTERN EUROPEANS IN PARIS IN THE 1950S AND 1960S
After last month highlighting works that Bulgarian artist Georgi Daskaloff painted in Paris in the late 1960s, we have expanded the theme to include that of other Eastern Europeans working in France at that time. Paris, of course, was both a vibrant artistic hub and a place of refuge and exile for those displaced by the political upheavals of the 1920-40s. Whilst there was an influx of artists after the Second World War, the revolutions in 1918-20 also led to a number of painters choosing France as their new home. Those whose works we have highlighted here include Leon Zack and Leon Arthur Tutundjian, the former a Russian exile, the latter from Armenia.
Latest additions & news:
This month we have added the two works highlighted above by Leon Arthur Tutundjian and a late 1990s oil by Geoff Hollow. We have bent the dating rules slightly to allow us to show the Hollow because we believe the clean lines of his abstracts - somewhat reminiscent of Sean Scully - merit greater prominence than our second site offers.
Our second site at www.2021modernart.com, displays works falling outside the core Red Raven remit. This includes more realist styles and a wider variety of artists from 'developing' countries in the mid-late 20th century.
We are always interested in purchasing quality paintings from 1950s-1970s, whether from UK, Europe, Africa, Asia or the Americas.
